Any organic material will compost over time but for the best results this simple recipe should be followed: 1/2 "greens" and 1/2 "browns" (by volume) plus some air and water. With these ingredients, you will be composting!

Greens are nitrogen-rich materials that are a source of protein for the microbes at work on your pile:
* Green leaves
* Tea bags (unbleached paper teabags are best)
* Coffee grounds
* Plant trimmings
* Raw fruit and vegetable scraps
* Fresh grass clippings
* Hair
* Rotted manure (no dog or cat)

Browns are carbon-rich materials that provide energy for the microbes:
* Dried grass, leaves and some weeds
* Straw
* Wood chips
* Twigs and branches
* Shredded newspaper
* Sawdust
* Grain chaff and hulls
* Corn cobs and stalks
