What & Where to Recycle INDEX | Appliances

Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) damage the Earth's protective ozone layer. Any appliances containing CFC coolants must be processed for disposal in a special manner by qualified professionals. Flathead County Landfill offers this service free to county residents. CFC appliances include: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers. Anyone illegally venting CFC's can be fined $25,000 per incident and sentenced to five years in jail, under Federal law.

Reuse is the best form of recycling! If your old appliance still works, someone else can probably use it. Use the yellow pages to find charities that will accept, at no charge, a working appliance in decent condition. Also, check the yellow pages for used appliance shops that will pay for good working units.

Flathead County defines the following items as major appliances:
Refrigerators, Dishwashers, Freezers, Dryers, Dehumidifiers, Stoves/Ranges, Trash Compactors, Water Heaters, Air Conditioners, Furnaces, Washing Machines, Heat Pumps.
