Recycle CLOTHING & HOUSEHOLD ITEMS | |||||||
|
The bulk of these items end up in a landfill when steps are not taken to recycle them. Many of these items can be reused and often have a cash resale value. Reuse: Diaries and old photos: If you have a stack of old photos or old diaries you or your relatives don't want, call your town or county historical society to see if they would be interested in a donation. Old but servicable clothing: Some high school and community colleges or community theater groups might be interested in any vintage clothing you want to get rid of. You might also get a nice price from a vintage clothing dealer. Garage sales: Garage sales are a popular way of disposing of unwanted household items. Thrift stores: Thrift stores around the valley accept used clothing and other items and have second-hand items available for purchase. Did You Know? The textile industry removes 2.5 billion pounds of post consumer textile product waste from the solid waste stream. Still, 10 billion pounds of clothing end up in landfills. There are many organizations that have drop-off sites and offer pick-up service for donated clothing, household goods and furniture. Donating used items can be less labor-intensive than selling them and offers feel-good rewards, in addition to possible tax deductions. It's a good idea to call ahead and ask what items an organization will accept. That varies becasue of the organization's inventory and storage space. RECYCLE HERE! |
